Is SWORD’s Mission to Acquire and Destroy the Ancient Weapons? | What Does Drake Know?

In Chapter 1118 of One Piece, the members of SWORD gave a cryptic reaction to Vegapunk’s message. Could this be tied to their underlying purpose? Let’s dive into that!

Reactions of SWORD Members

The SWORD members were stationed at the “Marine GS General Hospital,” but something about that hospital feels off…

Drake is also hospitalized there, but considering he’s now a pirate, it’s strange for him to be admitted to a hospital run by the Marines or the World Government. We’ll explore that oddity in the next section, but it’s undeniable that the SWORD members’ reactions to Vegapunk’s message were significant.

Helmeppo mentioned the true nature of the One Piece, which leads us to believe he might think that the Ancient Weapons are the One Piece. While that may be incorrect, judging by the subsequent lines from Koby, Prince, and Peony, it’s highly likely that their purpose is connected to the Ancient Weapons.

Previously, I speculated that SWORD’s mission might be to secure and destroy the Ancient Weapons to prevent them from falling into anyone’s hands. The most alarming detail from Vegapunk’s message is the revelation that the Ancient Weapons, which possibly caused the sinking of the old world, still exist.

Peony’s line, “It’s our turn,” likely refers to the confirmation of the Ancient Weapons’ existence. Now that it’s certain, it seems that SWORD’s role has finally come into play.

The “terrifying conclusion” that Koby and Prince refer to could be that the World Government—no, the Celestial Dragons—already possess the Ancient Weapons.

Given the current situation, it’s unlikely that pirates have acquired and used the Ancient Weapons. Considering that the Mother Flame is involved and that Luffy and his crew aren’t the “evil” ones, it’s plausible that the World Government, having acquired the Mother Flame from Vegapunk through some means, might have disposed of him once he was no longer useful.

The Revolutionary Army also seems to believe that the World Government possesses and has used the Ancient Weapons. If the Celestial Dragons indeed possess and have used the Ancient Weapons, it suggests that they had some prior knowledge, perhaps information that Drake holds, which could be damaging to the World Government.

Drake was explicitly called “a problem” by CP-0…
