In ONE PIECE Chapter 1129, it’s revealed that the “Sun God” is none other than Lord, the former navigator of the New Giant Pirates. However, he appears to be quite different from the other members of the New Giant Pirates… In this article, I’ll dive into that!
Revealed as an Otaku Character
In ONE PIECE Chapter 1129, it’s confirmed that the “Sun God” is indeed Lord, the former navigator of the New Giant Pirates. Interestingly, Lord seems to have an “otaku” vibe, which is quite rare in the world of ONE PIECE.
We’ve seen characters like Bartolomeo, who is obsessed with Luffy and a die-hard fan of the Straw Hat Pirates, but they’re more like ultra-fanatics than the kind of “otaku” we’d recognize in the real world. However, Lord feels closer to a more stereotypical “otaku” character.
Lord speaks in a samurai-like manner, but this doesn’t seem to reflect a true samurai spirit or any connection to Wano. Instead, it appears that he’s using the samurai speech style because it fits the image of an otaku character, at least in his mind. He also makes other remarks that emphasize his otaku nature.
This otaku characteristic makes Lord stand out significantly from the typical giants we’ve seen from Elbaf, a warrior nation. It even makes you wonder if Lord is truly from Elbaf. That said, we’ve only seen glimpses of Elbaf’s culture, and it’s possible that characters like Lord do exist there.
Lord rebelled against Hajrudin’s decision to join Luffy’s Grand Fleet and ultimately left the New Giant Pirates. Even before this, his attire set him apart from the other crew members—while Hajrudin and the others wear Viking-style clothing, Lord’s outfit appears to be of much higher quality. This suggests he may have been raised differently.
Given the warrior upbringing typical of Elbaf’s giants, it seems unlikely that someone like Lord would grow into an otaku character. This raises the possibility that Lord was raised in a more affluent household—or perhaps he’s even of royal descent from Elbaf…
