Was Carmel Kind Even if Not Good?
While Carmel was clearly not a good person, I don’t think her kindness toward the children was entirely a lie.
Even though she ultimately sold them off, none of the children seemed to hold any grudge against her, and there’s never been a moment in the story where she mistreated them.
Additionally, she was trusted and loved by the giants of Elbaf, which suggests she was gentle and caring in her daily interactions.
I find it hard to believe that everything she did was an act. It’s possible that her activities were her way of preventing orphans from being enslaved, as I mentioned earlier.
From an outside perspective, she was someone who gathered orphans, raised them, and helped them find independence by joining the Marines or CP, so it would be difficult to call her a villain.
Moreover, the ideal that Linlin was inspired by—the idea of a world where all races could sit at the same table—was something Carmel herself preached. I don’t think this was just a convenient lie.
If she were a true villain, I doubt she would have come up with such words, even as a pretext. She would likely have said something more superficial.
It seems to me that Carmel might have genuinely wished for a world where things were like that, which is why she could speak to Linlin and the children about it.
Carmel wasn’t a good person… that much is certain, but I don’t think her kind words and ideals were entirely false.
That concludes this article. Thank you very much for reading!
