Saint Ethanbaron V. Nasujuro has demonstrated his formidable strength on Egghead Island, but is he truly unrelated to Wano Country? In this article, I’ll delve into various theories on this topic.
The Mysteries of the Amatsuki and Kurozumi Clans
Based on his appearance, abilities, and weapon, Saint Nasujuro seems to be the only member of the Five Elders with a distinctly Japanese aesthetic, making it hard not to suspect a connection to Wano Country. I’ve previously written about this, but it’s hard to overlook the mysterious nature of the Amatsuki and Kurozumi Clans from Wano Country.
The Amatsuki and Kurozumi Clans are among the five great daimyo families of Wano, but unlike the Shimotsuki Clan, which governs Hakumai and Ringo, the Uzuki Clan that governs Udon, and the Fugetsu Clan that governs Kibi, the domains of the Amatsuki and Kurozumi Clans remain unclear.
I believe that the reason Kuri was a lawless wasteland could be that it was originally governed by the Kurozumi Clan, but after a scandal involving Orochi’s grandfather, the Kurozumi Clan fell from grace. If that’s the case, it makes sense why the Kurozumi Clan no longer held any domain.
Additionally, the Kurozumi Clan is the only one without the character “月” (meaning “moon”) in its name. Given that the Shimotsuki Clan governs two regions, it’s possible that the Amatsuki Clan originally governed one of them, and the clan might have ceased to exist after the incident caused by Orochi’s grandfather, explaining why it no longer held any domain.
These mysteries surrounding the Amatsuki and Kurozumi Clans are intriguing, especially considering that Kozuki Toki, originally from the Amatsuki Clan, was born and raised overseas 800 years ago and was unfamiliar with Wano Country. This suggests that the Amatsuki Clan had a unique status compared to the other families.
Given that the Kozuki Clan, the ruling family of Wano, originally came from a line of stonemasons, it’s possible that a family with a higher status than the Kozuki Clan existed. If that’s the case, Saint Nasujuro, if connected to Wano, might have ties to the Amatsuki or Kurozumi Clans. The Amatsuki Clan, with its history of living abroad, seems a more likely candidate.
