Neutrality Between Good and Evil?
Does Vegapunk’s Philosophy Reject Good and Evil? | Neutrality Between Good and Evil?
Buddhism teaches the concept of “non-duality of good and evil.” This idea suggests that good and evil are like light and shadow, day and night—they are interdependent. Good exists because evil exists, and evil exists because good exists. The boundary between them is called “the middle way.” However, unlike Kizaru’s “uncertainty,” this middle way is about making the best possible choice without being bound by any particular ideology. It leads to overall benefit, as opposed to favoring one side over the other.
When you lean toward good, evil suffers, and when you lean toward evil, good suffers. But by taking the middle way, everyone benefits. Learning from both extremes and making decisions accordingly is crucial. Vegapunk’s reason for working for the World Government and creating various inventions was rooted in the ideal of providing free energy and sharing knowledge through Punk Records. In this sense, Vegapunk was pursuing the middle way.
The middle way represents the best path for humanity and reflects essential values. Good and evil, while influential, do not change humanity’s desire for progress and happiness. These values are fundamental and unchanging, even as perceptions of good and evil shift over time. When Saint Saturn declared that “humanity does not need progress,” it felt like a rejection of the middle way, which I see as a universal value for humanity.
In essence, I believe Vegapunk embodies the philosophy of the middle way. His inventions, including the Pacifistas and Seraphims, were not created for the Tenryubito but to protect the common people (the middle way) from harm. This suggests that Vegapunk’s true allegiance was always to the people and their well-being. And it seems that at the core of Vegapunk’s philosophy lies the mysterious figure known as “him.”
