In ONE PIECE Chapter 1113, Vegapunk finally begins to reveal the truth about the world, and through this, his philosophy starts to become clearer. I’d like to explore this in more detail.

Vegapunk Does Not Discuss Good and Evil

In Chapter 1113, Vegapunk begins to speak about the world’s truth, but he starts by explaining that the fact this video is being broadcast means he is already dead. He goes on to say that the reason for his death is that he committed two sins, which ultimately led to his demise. Although he doesn’t explicitly name these sins, he makes it clear that he does not consider the World Government as evil for killing him. He states that he does not intend to discuss good and evil, explaining that this is because he doesn’t know enough about “him” to make that judgment.

This perspective seems to encapsulate the very philosophy of the genius Dr. Vegapunk. In the current ONE PIECE world, the Tenryubito and the World Government are seen as justice, while those who break their laws are deemed evil. However, anyone can see that the Tenryubito appear and feel more like evil incarnate. Vegapunk himself has described the Tenryubito as “filthy” and clearly harbors a dislike for them, suggesting that he does not consider them to be good. Despite this, Vegapunk has been employed by the World Government, which is controlled by the Tenryubito, and has created various inventions for them.

Similarly, York, who shares Vegapunk’s thoughts, desired to become a Tenryubito and betrayed Vegapunk. If Vegapunk’s philosophy is to not discuss good and evil, this action starts to make sense. Blackbeard Teach also stated during the Impel Down arc that discussing good and evil is pointless and has no clear answer. It seems that Teach and Vegapunk share a fundamentally similar philosophy, and I believe Luffy might as well. Roger and Whitebeard likely held a similar view. In the ONE PIECE world, what is considered evil by society often turns out to be what we, the readers, perceive as justifiable, while the supposed “justice” of the Tenryubito seems inherently evil.

All of this points to the idea that Vegapunk, Luffy, and Teach might adhere to a philosophy best described as “neutrality.”
