Who Is the “He” Vegapunk Refers To? | Good and Evil from a Pacifist’s Perspective

Good and Evil from a Pacifist’s Perspective

It’s clear that Vegapunk is a pacifist. But what does “good and evil” mean from a pacifist’s perspective?

If we consider the current situation, where the Celestial Dragons, who consider themselves gods, view all others as mere slaves, then the notion of “peace” becomes deeply troubling. From a pacifist’s viewpoint, evil would likely be any action or person that disrupts this so-called peace, while good would be those who protect and maintain it.

If this is true, then the World Government, established to create and maintain peace, would be seen as good by pacifists. Organizations like the CP and the Navy exist to protect and sustain this peace. Vegapunk’s work for the World Government, creating the Pacifistas and Seraphim, would have been in service of this peace.

However, the reality is far more complex. The Celestial Dragons, who control the World Government, are clearly evil—downright malevolent. They actively harm the people they consider beneath them, driven by obvious malice.

Understanding what Joy Boy intended to do with the world could clarify the question of good and evil, but it seems Vegapunk himself doesn’t fully grasp it. The Void Century was likely a time of clashing ideologies, and while Vegapunk seems to have some understanding of the Great Kingdom’s philosophy, he may still be unsure of what Joy Boy was trying to achieve.

Perhaps, like Roger and Luffy, Joy Boy had a dream that was difficult to comprehend—a “dream’s end” that even Vegapunk struggles to understand. Could Joy Boy have been striving to create a world beyond the simplistic notions of good and evil?
