In ONE PIECE Chapter 1114, it is revealed that Joy Boy was the first pirate in the world’s history and the first man to conquer the seas. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on this revelation!

Joy Boy, the Youth from Elbaf

Vegapunk reveals that Joy Boy was a young man from Elbaf. However, it’s not explicitly stated whether Joy Boy was a giant. As I’ve previously speculated, if the straw hat kept in Imu’s cold storage belonged to Joy Boy, its size seems a bit small for a giant, leading me to believe Joy Boy might have been from the Buccaneer tribe instead. Elbaf is quite tolerant of other races, as evidenced by the existence of Mother Carmel’s Sheep’s House, where children of various races coexisted with the giants. The Buccaneers, said to carry the blood of giants, could easily have lived in Elbaf.

Regardless, it’s clear that Joy Boy was not human. If he were a giant, his long lifespan would explain how he could have been active throughout the entire Void Century, from 900 to 800 years ago. However, if he were a giant, he might have been relatively small for his kind. Vegapunk also mentions that Joy Boy had a rubber-like body, similar to the Sun God Nika of Elbaf, strongly suggesting that Joy Boy had consumed the Hito Hito no Mi, Mythical Zoan, Model: Nika, and awakened its powers.

Given Nika’s ability to freely alter body size, it wouldn’t matter if Joy Boy was a giant, a human, or a Buccaneer. However, if Joy Boy were naturally larger, he might have been even stronger than Luffy is now. The Five Elders referred to Nika’s abilities as “the most ridiculous power in the world,” likely because Imu had informed them of it. This suggests that Joy Boy, like Luffy, fought against Imu while laughing and using a whimsical fighting style. Since the Marines didn’t exist back then, Joy Boy likely fought against the armies or alliances led by Imu. Vegapunk introduces Joy Boy as the first pirate in history, implying that before Joy Boy, pirates did not exist on the seas.
