The Meaning of the Sea and Being Children of the Sea
Was Joy Boy the First Pirate and Founder of the Seafaring People? | The Meaning of the Sea and Being Children of the Sea
I’ve written about the seafaring people before, but remember when Whitebeard once laughed and said, “No matter where we’re born, we’re all children of the sea.” This suggests that the people of the One Piece world believe that the origin of life lies in the sea.
Nature is often referred to as “mother,” and if all life indeed originates from the sea, it’s a fitting expression. Humans are born from the sea, grow on land, and eventually return to the sea. Returning to the sea might mean making the sea a part of our living space, or it could literally mean the world sinking into the sea, as Vegapunk suggests.
The sea is an inseparable part of the One Piece story. If we take a broader view of the sea, even “space,” which seems like a completely different world, can be considered a “sea of stars.” The sea in One Piece may be far “bigger” than we imagine. If that’s the case, perhaps Joy Boy aimed to venture not only into the Blue Sea, the Deep Sea, and the White-White Sea but also into the Sea of Stars.
We still don’t know how advanced the civilization Vegapunk speaks of was, but if something like the Mother Flame existed and was already in use, it wouldn’t be impossible to venture into space. I’ve speculated before that Luffy and even Roger’s ultimate dream might have been to venture into space, and if Joy Boy had already done so, Roger’s wish to have lived in the same era as Joy Boy starts to make a lot of sense.
That concludes this article. Thank you very much for reading to the end!
