Does the Iron Giant Possess the Powers of the Mythical Zoan Human-Human Fruit?
If the Iron Giant is indeed a Devil Fruit user and its power comes from the Human-Human Fruit, it’s likely that this is a Mythical Zoan type. As mentioned in past discussions, I’ve speculated that the Iron Giant might be modeled after Talos, the bronze giant from Greek mythology. It could indeed be the “Model: Talos.”
However, Talos was essentially a robotic giant, and that doesn’t quite explain the Iron Giant’s capacity for emotions and other human-like traits. This brings another giant figure to mind: the Nephilim from the Old Testament. Nephilim were born from the union of the Grigori, angels sent by God to guide and watch over humans, and human women. They were towering giants over 1,000 meters tall, known for their voracious appetites, which led them to consume humans and even resort to cannibalism.
Eventually, the Nephilim were wiped out by Noah’s flood, but there are legends that suggest one survived by boarding Noah’s Ark. Although I don’t see the Iron Giant as being as ferocious as the Nephilim, there is a thematic overlap in the idea of surviving a great flood. Considering the presence of Seraphim in the story, which are named after the highest-ranking angels, it wouldn’t be surprising if Nephilim were introduced in ONE PIECE as well.
As I’ve speculated before, there might have been multiple Iron Giants in the past, and the one on Egghead could be the last survivor. It’s possible that these giants were once recognized as a race known as the “Nephilim” and were perhaps created to oppose the Ancient Giants who sided with the original 20 kings.
The Ancient Giants likely existed in greater numbers and with greater strength during the Void Century. I also believe that the skull on Onigashima once belonged to a real Ancient Giant. While the Ancient Giants might align more closely with the image of the Nephilim, the Iron Giant could still possess abilities comparable to those of giants from myth and legend.
And it seems likely that the Five Elders will indeed focus their attacks on the Iron Giant!
