In ONE PIECE Chapter 1117, Saint Mars claims that the Iron Giant is the very same one that attacked the Holy Land Mariejois 200 years ago. Does this mean that they are truly immortal? This time, I’ll be delving into the relationship between the Five Elders and the Iron Giant.
Are the Five Elders Immortal?
In Chapter 1117, the four remaining Five Elders, excluding Saint Nasujuro, surround the Iron Giant and attack it, sending it flying. This seems to cause the Den Den Mushi inside the giant to either faint or die, cutting off the broadcast of Vegapunk’s message.
The Five Elders clearly recognize the Iron Giant, as Saint Mars explicitly states that it is indeed the same Iron Giant that attacked the Holy Land 200 years ago. The phrase “no doubt about it” strongly suggests that Mars had seen the Iron Giant with his own eyes during that incident. It’s unlikely he would be so confident if he had only heard stories about it.
If Saint Mars did indeed witness the Iron Giant 200 years ago, then it solidifies the suspicion that the Five Elders are not only ancient but possibly immortal—especially considering that Saint Saturn has been shown to look exactly the same as he did 38 years ago.
However, as I’ve speculated before, if there were multiple immortal beings, it would undermine the unique value of Imu, who seems to possess a rare, coveted trait that even the Five Elders lack. Therefore, I believe that the Five Elders are not immortal but rather extremely long-lived.
Giants in the One Piece world live three times longer than humans, with an average human lifespan being around 100 years. This would suggest that the Five Elders might live up to 300 years or more. If their aging process is significantly slower, it would explain why Saturn looks unchanged after 38 years.
Though it’s unclear how they attained such longevity, I speculate that it might be linked to the awakening of their Mythical Zoan abilities. Mythical creatures often have traits like immortality or invincibility, so their powers could be affecting their lifespan.
Given this, it’s highly likely that the Five Elders, or at least Saint Mars, were present during the attack 200 years ago. But what exactly happened during that event?
