W-Nika! Will Luffy and Bonney Dispel the Dark Clouds of the Five Elders? | The Form of Freedom

W-Nika! Will Luffy and Bonney Dispel the Dark Clouds of the Five Elders? | A Hint at the Future?

In One Piece Chapter 1118, it seems that Bonney’s transformation is not into a “Future as a Giant” but rather into a “Future of Freedom,” where she takes on a Nika-like form…

Let’s dive into this idea!

The Form of Freedom

In One Piece Chapter 1118, when Bonney reunites with Luffy in his Gear 5 Nika form, she recalls how Luffy described this form as “the embodiment of my freedom” and then showcases her own complete transformation into Nika as a “Future of Freedom.”

First, let’s consider what Luffy meant when he described his Nika form as “the embodiment of my freedom.”

When Luffy was freed from the Seastone shackles in Wano Country’s prisoner mine, he declared, “I’ve always been free,” even after being physically liberated. This suggests that while Luffy’s spirit was always unbound and free, it was the power of the Nika fruit that allowed him to achieve physical freedom as well, enabling him to do whatever he wished. Thus, when he referred to his Nika form as “the embodiment of my freedom,” he was expressing the idea that he was now free in both body and spirit.

The freedom of mind and body are interconnected, but there are always limits to one or the other, preventing people from being truly free. However, it seems that Luffy has now surpassed those limits.

Of course, this would not have been possible without the powers of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. However, as I’ve suggested before, perhaps the existence of the “Sun God Nika” is something that anyone could potentially become…!

In Buddhism, the term “jiyūjizai” (freedom and control) signifies liberation from all restraints, which is also described as the state of enlightenment. A Buddha is a being who has reached this state, and it is taught that all humans can attain it.

Perhaps “Nika” is not so much a god in the world of One Piece but more akin to a Buddha, representing the idea that all people can become like Nika. Bonney’s transformation into Nika might be proof of this possibility.

I’ve previously speculated that becoming free is a form of human progress or evolution. If that’s the case, it makes sense why Im-sama and the Five Elders would view Nika as a threat and adopt the stance that humanity doesn’t need to progress. It also suggests that Nika’s existence is essential for the world to undergo a new transformation…

It also seems that Bonney might be able to recreate the Drums of Liberation…
