Did Luffy Discover the Weakness of the Five Elders’ Immortal Bodies? | A Weakness in the Immortal Body?
A Weakness in the Immortal Body?
It is believed that all the Five Elders possess regenerative abilities. They have all acquired the awakened form of mythical Zoan-types… This commonality suggests that their regeneration might be a benefit of their Zoan awakenings.
I’ve written before that Haki cannot be the source of such regeneration, and even with scientific enhancements, such abilities seem implausible, appearing more magical. However, within the context of One Piece, the most natural explanation is that this is a benefit of their awakened forms.
Personally, I think the drastically enhanced recovery rate from their awakenings has reached a level that can be called regenerative ability.
Luffy’s Nika form is also assumed to be an awakened form, but Luffy’s recovery doesn’t seem enhanced; its duration feels even shorter than Gear 4, creating a contradiction if the Five Elders’ regeneration is an awakening benefit. However, considering Luffy’s Nika ability might still have more potential, reaching its awakening form, the Five Elders’ regeneration might hint at Luffy developing similar capabilities.
Luffy decided on blowing the immortal Five Elders so far away that they couldn’t return as a strategy to escape, rather than fighting them, prioritizing escape over defeating them, potentially realizing something but lacking time to test it…
Perhaps it was merely intuition, with Luffy himself unsure, but seeing the softer Saint Saturn compared to Saint Valkyrie, he decided to test his theory?
I think there might be a limit to the Five Elders’ regeneration, and if struck multiple times with high-power attacks that surpass their regeneration speed, their bodies could be destroyed. This could mean they might not be as troublesome as the Lunarians or Seraphim…
Luffy attempted to forcefully defeat S-Bear with his Gatling attack… While the details afterward were not depicted, if Luffy realized a weakness in the Five Elders’ immortality, his experience fighting Seraphim might have influenced him…
