What Do the Sea Kings Desire? The Meaning Behind “This Time, It Will Surely Succeed” | The Two Kings
The Two Kings
Roger overheard the Sea Kings in the deep sea, saying, “The two kings will meet again, and even the whales rejoice.”
Who are these “two kings”?
While one of them is undoubtedly Shirahoshi, the identity of the other king is intriguing.
The Sea Kings foresaw Shirahoshi’s birth, saying, “Even in distant seas, the other will be born.” Since Roger overheard this conversation roughly 25 years ago, the other king must have been born afterward.
Given these hints, the other king is highly likely to be Luffy.
If so, the two kings have already met and formed a strong bond.
However, if Luffy is the second king, what is he the king of?
The simplest interpretation is that Shirahoshi is the “King of the Sea,” while Luffy represents the “King of the Land.” But Luffy’s dream to become the Pirate King isn’t about ruling or subjugating others.
Luffy himself defines the Pirate King as “the freest person on the seas.”
This means the “two kings” may symbolize freedom. Perhaps Shirahoshi and Luffy are referred to as kings because they aim to bring liberation to the world.
It’s also plausible that the Pirate King’s role is to liberate Poseidon and allow Shirahoshi to fulfill her purpose.
But what about the phrase, “This time, it will surely succeed”?
