Was Saul the One Who Encouraged Their Departure?

Hyorudeen’s goal was always to join the revived Giant Warrior Pirates, and eventually, he and his comrades formed the New Giant Warrior Pirates and set sail from Elbaf. As I’ve written before, I’m very curious as to what motivated Hyorudeen and his comrades to establish a new pirate crew instead of waiting for the return of the original Giant Warrior Pirates.

Hyorudeen seems like someone with a strong sense of duty, who rarely changes his mind once he’s made a decision. This characteristic is shared by warriors of Elbaf, much like Dorry and Brogy, who fought their duel for 100 years, forgetting even the reason for their battle.

So, what made Hyorudeen change his mind? I suspect it was the influence of an outsider. And when I think of outsiders, I can’t help but think of Saul, who is hiding in Elbaf even though he’s not a native of the island.

Saul is now referred to as “the Scholar,” and though he’s a former Vice Admiral of the Navy, he’s someone who has sailed across the seas and was a key figure in the Ohara Incident, in which he rebelled against the Navy.

While Road enjoys building and playing with his “box garden,” in a way, Elbaf has long maintained itself as a sort of “sealed garden” in isolation. Saul, seeing this, might have viewed Elbaf in the same way.

When the texts were recovered from Ohara, some members of the current New Giant Warrior Pirates were seemingly present. I think it’s likely that Saul had a major influence on Hyorudeen and his comrades, encouraging them to form their own crew and set sail, essentially giving them the push they needed.

On the other hand, Road, portrayed as more of an otaku character, seems different from Hyorudeen and the others. He probably values his own controlled world more and doesn’t see any value in a world where those weaker than him live.
