Why Did It Apologize to Joy Boy?
The ancient robot’s first words after awakening from its 200-year slumber were an apology to Joy Boy.
The big question is, of course, why did it apologize?
When someone apologizes, it’s often because they caused trouble, hurt someone, broke a promise, or failed to meet expectations.
I’ve previously speculated that the ancient robot might have made a promise to Joy Boy but was unable to fulfill it.
In ONE PIECE, promises play a crucial role and are a significant theme.
The fact that a robot—a non-living being—expressed an apology with apparent emotion suggests it has self-awareness, thoughts, and feelings.
If this robot, despite being a machine, had made a promise to a human like Joy Boy, that would be quite touching.
From its initial appearance, I’ve felt there was something special about this robot, and now it seems like it had a deep connection with Joy Boy.
I believe that, much like Zunesha, the ancient robot was one of Joy Boy’s “companions.”
As I’ve previously speculated, the reason the ancient robot appeared in Mariejois 200 years ago may have been to retrieve Joy Boy’s straw hat.
Although it hasn’t been confirmed that the straw hat kept in cold storage in Mariejois belongs to Joy Boy, if it does—and if it was something precious to him—
And if Imu is holding it as a symbol of the past, then the ancient robot’s apology and its appearance in Mariejois 200 years ago start to make sense.
Kuma’s reason for flying to Mariejois also remains unclear, but it seems like it wasn’t just for revenge…
But now that the ancient robot is awake, what will it do next?
