Robin and Saul’s Reunion | The Circumstances of Saul’s Hideout in Elbaf
The Circumstances of Saul’s Hideout in Elbaf
Saul was frozen by Kuzan’s ice during the burning of Ohara, but it’s certain that Kuzan didn’t kill him, and that he was likely in a state where he could be revived if thawed.
The intense flames that engulfed Ohara likely thawed Saul out. While Luffy and the others needed careful thawing when Kuzan froze them, it’s safe to assume that Saul’s giant physiology allowed him to survive being thawed by the flames.
Once revived, Saul would have dived into the sea to avoid the flames and save himself. But what happened next…?
I’ve discussed this in the past, but it seems likely that Saul reached Elbaf from Ohara, and it was he who led the giants to recover the books from Ohara.
Vegapunk witnessed the retrieval of the books months after the Buster Call, so it’s hard to imagine Saul remained in Ohara all that time, waiting for the giants to arrive.

While Elbaf would indeed be the perfect place for Saul to hide, he didn’t seem to hold Elbaf in high regard…
I think it’s highly likely that someone assisted Saul in reaching Elbaf, and that person might be someone entirely unexpected.
As we enter the final saga, connections between characters are being revealed in surprising ways, with characters we thought were dead or long absent suddenly returning. So, it wouldn’t be surprising if Saul was saved by someone unexpected…
Thanks to this assistance, Saul likely reached Elbaf quickly and directed the giants to recover the books from Ohara. According to Dorry and Brogy, Saul is now known as a scholar…
